DescriptionThis document is unsigned and undated, but states it is a copy of information in the family Bible (Hausbuch) of Johannes Schlagbach and Maria Eckell. It was probably created by church elder Henry Kurtz, who acted for the Slabaugh daughters and their husbands in securing the inheritance of Maria Eckell's brother Johannes. A transcription of the original German is below, followed by a translation into English. The location and provenance of the original is unknown, but a photocopy was provided by Rebecca Carrington in 2019. Click on the image for a readable (in German) version. English TranslationFamily Register and Death Certificate of Johannes Schlagbach, married to Maria Eckell, on the 22nd of June 1833, at the Nidegg (in Switzerland). On the 30th of July 1834 I bought my property (in America, near Waynesburg, Stark Co. Ohio) and moved in in the next days. Children: 1) On the 7th of March 1836 our (first) child (a daughter) was born into the world and received the name Anna Albertina at her baptism. 2) On the 31st of August 1838 our second child was born, who was given the name Maria Adaline at the baptism. 3) On the 5th of September 1841 our third child (also a daughter) was born, and received the name Johanna Benjamina. Death Certificate Maria Schlagbach, born Eckell died on 29 April 1850 at age 48 years and 4 months, (leaving behind the widower and also three children, their ages at the time 14, 12, and not quite 9 years old). The above is a transcription of the original family register written by father Schlagbach in his house Bible, who within a year followed his wife in death, in ??? with the testimony that was sent to Germany in 1870. The early death of the parents, and the young age at which the children were orphaned, ??? why no birth certificate for the mother was to be found. Because the will of Johannes Eckell is important to the inheritance of Maria Schlagbach, b. Eckel, or if creditors appear, there should be no doubt that any will falls into the hands of the next ones. | |||
