Letter from Rev Henry Kurtz regarding Anna Albertina Slabaugh Shively's Inheritance

Col. O. Oct 20, 1873
Dear members & friends,
Your last letter dated Sept 27 from Warsaw came duly to hand when we came home after a trip of ten days, and ever since I was studying whether I should write in English to our American ambassador in Germany, or in German to the German authorities. But day before yesterday, when we were home from our council meeting in the evening, I found a large package of documents from Germany, which after examining I discovered brings your case to a close. Your money is now already in Cincinnati, perhaps not quite as much as you expected, but still so much to be content therewith. I am really glad, and relieved, not for my sake only, but for your sake also.
Your share altogether as you will see in the enclosed paper, in 1778 Prussian Thalers, and deducting 38 Thaler 7-6 for costs & charges in Cincinnati leaves for you 1740 Thalers. One Thaler is counted 68 cents or our American money, and according to that your full share will be in American gold $1182.00 or to each one of you $394.00 after another deduction in Cincinnati for postage of $1.20.
However in order to get the money, you will have to sign the enclosed papers before a Notary Public and two witnesses, and then send it to Philip Seneff and let them do the same, and finally send it back to me, and I will stand good for the money to some safe by Express, after deducting my outlays, expenses and trouble. You know I paid a visit to Cassel in Germany on your account five years ago, met you the heirs in Wayne Co Ohio got up power of attorney & went to Waynesburg, and got certificates of death &tc. Met you again in Warsaw, got up the last power of attorney &tc. &tc. but I hope the premium on the gold will pay me all, and if it will pay me more than I ought to have, (it was very low for the last two weeks, and we cannot know what it will be till the day, when the gold is sold) I will have nothing for my trouble, and send you back the surplus. Or, as we are building a new meetinghouse in our little church, and last year another, for which we are six hundred Dollars more to pay, than we have subscriptions, and need help very much, if you are willing to let that surplus go to our church, we will be very thankful, and the Lord bless you for it.
Write soon, give love to father and all the br. & friends
Henry Kurtz
