    1. [S149] Descendants of Jacob Hochstetler, the immigrant of 1736.
      6526, Joseph Hostetler^, 1, Mifflin, Pa., at death, was b. about Aug., 1742. He resided in Heidelberg Tp., Berks Co., Pa., till about 1806, when his name last appears on the tax lists of this township. In 1810, he bought from Joseph Root fifty acres in Fermanagh Tp., Mifflin Co., Pa., near McAlisterville. This land was part of the farm which William McAlister gave by will, in 1847, to his sons Robert and George Washington McAlister. One of these farms is now owned by Mrs. Sarah Lloyd, Oakland Mills, Pa., a granddaughter of Wil liam McAlister, and the other is owned by Solomon Kauffman. The inventory of Joseph Hostetler's estate was filed Aug. 24, 1812. He m. (1) Anna Blank, dau. of Hans Blank who arrived at Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 4, 1751, on ship Queen of Denmark. Hertzler Gen. Fams. 554-5. Amish church. John, 6527; Henry, 7010; Michael, 7173; Magdalena, 7334; Joseph, 7335; Peter, 7543; Anna, 7907.1. He m. (2) Barbara Kauffman, the inventory of whose estate was taken Jan. 13, 1813.

      It was by reason of Col. Bouquet's success that Joseph Hochstetler was restored to his folks. Some of the captives accompanied the retiring army to Pittsburg, arriving just before the close of the year 1764, while others, who were too far from the Tuscarawas Valley, could not be brought in and re turned until the following spring. It is not known whether Joseph returned late in the fall of 1764 or the following spring.
