      An agrrement made between Thomas Towne, William (his W mark)Towne, Joseph Town and Samuel Town, all of Topsfield, thatwhereas the court settled the lands of our father, Edmond Townof Topsfield upon us, and also our mother Mrs. Mary Town hathgiven to us her share of the land which belonged to ourgrandfather Thomas Browning, and we have divided all the saidlands amongst ourselves as is here-after expressed (exceptingonly two acres and a half of medow of said Browning's which ourmother hath given by her will to our sisters); "Thomas Town hathtwo twenty acre lotts in the first Division where he now dwelsand about six acres of medow joyning to his Land and to theRever also about foure acres of medow Lyeing betwen Beverelymedows and Wenham medows which he had of our father for Twentiand Two pounds will to him by our grandfather Browning."
      William Town's share of upland "is all that which was ourrathers on the north side of the Rever where he now dwells asalso a peace of medow of about three acres hoyning eastward onJacob Easte and westward upon Joseph Town and also six acres ofmedow on the south side of the Rever over against his dore."
      Joseph Town's share is "all our fathers second devision where henow swells it being about fifty acres asso Three acres of Revermedow joyning to Jacob Este on the west and William Town on theeast, also foure acres of medow on the south side of the Reverjoyning upon Joseph Town on the east and onJohn Curtice on thewest."
      Samuell Town's share is "all the upland and medow that was ourgrandfather Brownings on the north side of the Rever In which isincluded William Towns share of land and (continued on pg. 240)medow which he and Samuell Town bought of our Unkle JamesSymonds, also about an acre and halfe of Revir medow joyning toJoseph Town to the west and Jacob Town to the east."

    2. [S79] The Descendants of William Towne, Who Came to America in or about 1630 and Settled in Salem, Mass, The Descendants of William Towne.
      THOMAS TOWNE (Edmund*, William1), b. at Topsfield in 1655. m. Sarah French, March 17, 1685. He was in Captain Lothrop's company at Hatfield, August 12, 1675, and was one of the very few of that company of eighty-eight men who escaped from the fatal encounter with the Indians on the memorable eighteenth of September following at Bloody Brook. He was at this time about twenty years of age, and the historian of that period says : " The company was made up of young men, the flower of Essex County, who were not afraid to speak to the enemy within the gate."* He died in 1720, aged sixty-five years. Their children, b. in Topsfield :
      i. Edmund, b. January 28, 1686. d. unm. in 1741, aged fifty-five.
      ii. Experience. bapt. June 24, 1688. d. October 27, 1760.
      iii. Thomas. bapt. October 18, 1691.
      iv. Sarah, b. May 8, 1694. d. November 1, 1761.
      v. Edna. b. December 3, 1696.
      vi. Richard. b. July 16, 1700.
      vii. Mary. 6. July 7, 1703. d. March 11, 1741.
