JESSE TOWNE (Joseph*, Edmund*, William '). b. at Topsfield, December 5, 1697. m. and removed to Kennebunkport, Me., where in 1729 he was a proprietor or land owner. He finally settled at Wells, where he built a house in 1740, and in 1754, when crossing the river, be broke through the ice and was drowned. He was a member of the church at Wells and was very active in church affairs. In 1750 his two sons were taxed, but we have no date of births nor have we the name of his wife. Their children : i. Joseph. b. in Kennebunkport, Me. ii. Thomas, b. in Kennebunkport, Me.

In crossing the Kennebec River he broke through the ice and was frozen to death, in 1768. Joseph and Thomas were brothers and m. sisters. Their children : Jacob, b. 1758. Joseph, b. 1760. Ruth. d. unm. b. and d. in infancy.
