At eight in the morning, the fourth of Fructidor year five of the Republic, the 21st of August 1797 in the mayor’s building of La Croix aux Mines, Canton of Laveline, Department of Vosges, place of residence of the contracting parties, appear before me the joint undersigned, Nicolas Roth, age 36, native of Echery, Sainte Marie aux Mines, Anabaptist tissier at La Croix aux Mines, widower first of Elizabeth Berze and second of Anne Müller also both Anabaptists on the one part and Anne Munier, age 33, native D'orvaize (now Urbeis) valley of Ville in Alsace, daughter of the late Christian Munier and Marie Adam when living farmers of Orvaize. . .? and presently a servant in the home of Nicolas Roth on the second part. Four adult witnesses assisting myself are the learned Jean Jacques Margraitte, Simon Maire, cobbler, Jean Baptiste Boudiere, youth, and Jean Pierre Boudiere, Cabartier, all farmers of La Croix aux Mines.
