Grandfather John Egli was born June 16, 1821 (auf dem Mondelshof by Ellingen auf dem Swatswald in Herzigtum) Baden, Germany. When yet a child his parents moved to Strasburg, Alsace where he grew to manhood. He came to America in 1847 and made his home near Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Grandmother Magdalene Gascho Egli was born in Alsace in 1826, she also came to Ontario; they were married on February 10, 1850. To them were born twelve children: Catherine, Joseph, Barbara, Andrew, Chris, John, Anna, Fanny, Ben, Jacob, Lena, and Mary. In 1867 they came to the United States and lived in or near Tazwell County, Illinois all the rest of their lives with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas. After their return from Kansas they went to live near their oldest son Joseph, where they passed the remaining days of their lives. On February 10, 1900 they celebrated their Golden Wedding at the home of his son Joseph; their children were all present and most of their grandchildren.
On April 8, 1902 Magalena Egli Passed away, aged 75 years and 10 days. John Egli passed away on December 11, 1907, aged 86 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
